To make a baby feel comfortable and at home during the photography session, it is important to give some minutes to adjust with new environment. It’s not necessary that you should be friends with your subject, but having been in one or two photo sessions would help you understanding the behavior of babies and the dos and donts

• Put on a soothing music, it helps the newborns to feel relaxed and calm. If he is six months and more play what he listens at home and let them express themselves while you constantly capturing the moments.

• When doing new born photography, make sure baby is in deep sleep then only you can wrap him easily and make them pose with the props. Best is not letting the baby sleep before the shoot, play with them and tire them, as soon as you are at the studio, put them to sleep. 
• If he is six months and plus, he is well aware of the surroundings, give him a smile at all times, play around with expressions like peek a boo, they will surely gonna respond to you when you are playing with them. Dont just sit and click, interact with them for best baby pictures 

• Ask parents to bring a change of clothes for baby, extra diapers and polybag so they can properly dispose the used diaper. 
• Ask them to carry his milk feed with them in case baby gets hungry during his baby shoot session

When shooting indoors, maintain a healthy normal ac temperature, when shooting outdoors make sure it isnt a sunny day so always use a golden hour morning session.
